What Are The Types of Dentures?

We offer a range of denture options to suit your individual needs:

Full Dentures

Full Dentures

Made from a plate of acrylic that moulds to the mouth-shape, these dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth and rest on the gums for support.

Partial Dentures

Made to replace multiple teeth, partial dentures are designed for those with some remaining natural teeth to act as an anchor point using clasps or precision attachments for stability.

Implant-Retained Dentures

A more permanent and secure solution to removable dentures, these are securely attached to dental implants for enhanced stability and comfort.

Flexible Dentures

Made from lightweight, flexible material for a more natural feel and appearance.

Why Do I Need Dentures?

Dentures are essential for individuals who have lost some or all of their natural teeth due to tooth decay, gum disease, injury, or aging. Missing teeth can impact more than just your appearance—they can make it difficult to chew properly, affect your speech, and lead to changes in your facial structure. Without teeth, the muscles in the face can begin to sag, giving a sunken or aged look. Dentures help restore the function of your mouth, support facial muscles, and improve your ability to eat and speak comfortably. They also help prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of place. For many people, dentures are a practical and affordable way to regain confidence and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

The Denture Process

1. Initial Consultation

Your journey starts with a dental exam and consultation. The dentist will assess your oral health, discuss your goals, and determine whether you need full dentures (for all teeth in the upper or lower arch) or partial dentures (to replace several missing teeth while preserving the remaining ones).

2. Tooth Extractions (if needed)

If any remaining unhealthy or unsalvageable teeth need to be removed, your dentist will schedule extractions. In some cases, immediate (temporary) dentures may be placed on the same day to maintain appearance and function while your gums heal.

3. Impressions and Measurements

Once your gums are healed (or before extractions for immediate dentures), the dentist will take detailed impressions (molds) of your mouth and measure how your jaws align. These molds ensure that your dentures will fit your mouth comfortably and function naturally.

4. Bite Registration and Shade Selection

Next, the dentist will record your bite and help you choose a tooth shape and shade that looks natural and suits your smile. This is especially important for partial dentures to blend in with existing teeth.

5. Try-In with Wax Model

A wax version of your denture will be created to check the fit, bite, and appearance. You’ll have a chance to see how your new teeth will look and feel. Adjustments can be made at this stage to ensure comfort and satisfaction before the final denture is made.

6. Final Denture Fitting

Once everything looks and feels right, the final denture is crafted in a dental lab. During your fitting appointment, your dentist will place the denture, make any final adjustments, and ensure it fits snugly and comfortably.

7. Follow-Up and Adjustments

It’s normal to need minor adjustments as your mouth adapts to the new dentures. Your dentist will schedule a follow-up visit to check for any sore spots and ensure a good fit.

8. Long-Term Care and Maintenance

You’ll receive instructions on how to care for your dentures, clean them properly, and maintain your oral health. Regular dental checkups are still important to monitor fit, gum health, and the condition of the denture over time.

FAQs & Common Questions

Below are some of the most common questions we receive from patients considering their dental treatment. If you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They’re custom-made to fit your mouth and restore both function and appearance.

We offer:

  • Complete dentures – for patients missing all their teeth.
  • Partial dentures – for those who still have some natural teeth remaining.
  • Flexible dentures – lightweight and comfortable, made from softer materials.
  • Implant-supported dentures – fixed in place using dental implants for added stability.

If you’ve lost multiple teeth due to decay, gum disease, or injury, dentures might be a good option. Book a consultation with our dentist to assess your oral health and discuss your options.

With proper care, dentures can last 5–10 years. However, your mouth naturally changes over time, so they may need relining, adjusting, or replacing eventually.

It can take a little time to get used to them, but most patients adapt quickly. We’ll provide tips and support to help you feel confident eating and speaking again.

Remove and rinse them after eating, brush them daily with a soft-bristled brush and non-abrasive cleaner, and soak them overnight in a denture-cleaning solution. Avoid hot water, which can warp them.

It’s generally recommended to remove dentures at night to give your gums a rest and to reduce the risk of infections. We’ll advise based on your specific case.

Basic dentures may be available on the NHS, but many patients choose private dentures for enhanced comfort, aesthetics, and materials. We’ll explain all your options during your consultation.

Costs vary depending on the type of denture, materials used, and any preparatory treatments required. We provide a full breakdown and treatment plan with no hidden fees.

Absolutely. Modern dentures are carefully crafted to match the shape, colour, and alignment of your natural teeth for a lifelike appearance.

Some discomfort is normal at first, but if it persists, please get in touch. We’ll check the fit and make any necessary adjustments.

Yes, we offer in-practice repairs, relines, and adjustments. In some cases, same-day repairs are possible.
