What is a smile makeover?

Smile makeovers are highly customisable and may include a range of cosmetic dental procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, composite bonding, teeth straightening, dental implants, gum contouring, and more. These procedures can correct a variety of dental imperfections, including stained or discoloured teeth, chipped or cracked teeth, misalignment, gaps between teeth and missing or damaged teeth. Smile makeovers aren’t limited to one area of dentistry and can cover restorative treatments as well as cosmetic ones. The focus is always on creating a new and improved smile that enhances your facial harmony.

What is involved in having a smile makeover?

Creating a bespoke smile makeover plan follows the same process but the treatment steps themselves will depend on which cosmetic treatments have been selected. Every smile is different and each smile makeover reflects this. We do have a Cosmetic Dentistry Bundle package that includes straightening, whitening and bonding. We also have the option to be customisable.

1. Free Cosmetic Consultation

At De-ientes Dental, we offer no-obligation, free cosmetic consultation to give you the opportunity to get a better picture of the treatments we have on offer for your smile makeover. We can talk through your current concerns, what aspects of your smile you wish to change and what expectations you have following from the treatment. We will talk through the treatment plan and your budget and timescales.

2. Assessment

Following the initial consultation, we will plan to see you for an assessment before we agree on a treatment plan. Before we begin, we need to be clear about your oral health and check for any issues before we plan for any treatment.

3. Cleaning

Our first treatment for a smile makeover is normally a thorough clean with our hygienist. We remove any tartar build-ups and surface stains from the teeth, making sure your smile is clean and healthy before we begin.

4. Surgery

Some smile makeovers include oral surgery if there are teeth to be replaced. We carry out the surgical treatments first to give you plenty of time to heal and recover. We place any implants necessary ready to complete your smile once they have fused securely to the jaw.

5. Straightening

If you are having Invisalign or braces, this step of the smile makeover will take the longest. The results will be outstanding and well worth the wait. Straightening using clear aligners can take around 10 to 12 months depending on your case, sometimes shorter. The treatment gradually moves your teeth using gentle forces towards a straighter position. Aligners also can neaten overcrowding and overlapping teeth.

6. Whitening

Over a course of around four weeks, we can brighten your smile next. Home whitening uses custom-made mouth trays which fit over the teeth. Applying a whitening agent inside the tray, you then wear the tray either for a short period during the day or at night while you sleep. The whitening agent gets to work where it covers the teeth, breaking down stain particles trapped in the tooth surfaces. Gradually, the treatment brightens your teeth, bleaching gently over a period of time.

You can late have top-up treatments using the same mouth trays to ensure your smile stays your preferred dazzling hue.

7. Bonding

Finally, we carry out any composite bonding treatments. For any teeth that need reshaping or repairing, we can use dental composite to transform their appearance. Composite is applied directly to the tooth in layers then dried under a UV lamp. The composite is colour-matched to your teeth which is why we do this last so it blends it with your newly whitened teeth.

8. Aftercare

Our work doesn’t end when you see your fully transformed smile for the first time. We want to keep your smile as healthy and beautiful as possible. Regular visits to the dentist and hygienist will ensure that your smile remains problem-free. A fantastic home care routine will protect your smile.
