Straighten Your Smile With Adult Orthodontics
Braces aren’t just for teens. More adults than ever are choosing orthodontic treatment to improve their smiles and oral health. Whether it’s to correct crooked teeth, close gaps, or fix bite issues, adult braces offer effective solutions with a range of modern, discreet options. Thanks to advancements in orthodontics, adults can now choose from traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, or nearly invisible aligners that fit seamlessly into a busy lifestyle. Straightening your teeth as an adult not only enhances confidence but also supports long-term dental health by making teeth easier to clean and maintain.
At De-ientes Dental, we have many fantastic teeth straightening options. We also offer 0% finance payment plans to make straight teeth more affordable across monthly payments.

Adult orthodontics can address a variety of dental concerns, including:
- Crooked or misaligned teeth
- Overcrowding
- Gaps between teeth
- Bite issues such as overbite, underbite, or crossbite
- Jaw pain or difficulty chewing due to misalignment
What Types of Adult Braces Are Available?
We offer several orthodontic options to suit different needs and lifestyles. At De-ientes Dental, we offer the following:
- Traditional Metal Braces – Reliable and effective, these braces use metal brackets and wires to gradually straighten teeth.
- Ceramic Braces – A more discreet option with tooth-coloured brackets that blend in with natural teeth.
- Lingual Braces – Placed on the back of the teeth, making them virtually invisible.
- Clear Aligners (e.g., Invisalign® and Spark) – Removable, transparent trays that gently move teeth into place without the need for brackets or wires.
As it’s difficult to know which straightening system is right for you, we offer FREE consultations with our team so you can talk through our options. You can book online here.
The Braces Process
1. Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation with a dentist. During this visit, they will examine your teeth, bite, jaw alignment, and overall oral health. Digital photos, X-rays, and a 3D scan or impressions are usually taken to assess your specific needs.
2. Customised Treatment Plan
Based on the findings, the dentist will create a personalized treatment plan. They’ll explain your options, such as traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, or clear aligners (like Invisalign), along with the expected timeline, cost, and goals of treatment.
3. Pre-Treatment Dental Care (if needed)
Before braces are applied, any necessary dental work, such as fillings, cleanings, or extractions, will be completed to ensure your mouth is healthy and ready for orthodontic treatment.
4. Braces Placement or Aligner Fitting
- For braces, the dentist will bond brackets to your teeth and connect them with an archwire. The process is typically painless and takes 1–2 hours.
- For aligners, you’ll receive a series of custom-made trays and instructions on how to wear and care for them.
5. Regular Adjustment Appointments
You’ll return every 4-8 weeks for check-ups. For braces, these visits involve tightening or replacing wires to guide your teeth gradually into place. For aligners, you’ll receive new trays every 1-2 weeks. These appointments allow your dentist to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.
6. Oral Hygiene and Lifestyle Guidance
Your dentist will provide instructions on how to brush, floss, and care for your teeth during treatment. Maintaining good oral hygiene is especially important to prevent cavities, gum issues, or staining around brackets.
7. Completion and Braces Removal
Once your teeth are properly aligned, your braces will be removed (or you’ll finish your final aligner tray), revealing your new smile. The process is quick and painless, followed by a professional cleaning to remove any adhesive residue.
8. Retainers and Long-Term Maintenance
To maintain your results, you’ll be given a retainer, which may be removable or fixed, depending on your case. Wearing your retainer as instructed is crucial to prevent your teeth from shifting back.
9. Ongoing Monitoring
Some dentists offer periodic check-ins after treatment to ensure your teeth stay in their ideal position. Good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups remain important after braces are off.

FAQs & Common Questions
Below are some of the most common questions we receive from patients considering their dental treatment. If you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Not at all! There’s no age limit for orthodontic treatment. Many adults choose to straighten their teeth later in life, whether for cosmetic reasons, bite correction, or to improve long-term oral health. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, you’re likely a candidate for treatment.
Adults can choose from a range of options, including:
- Traditional metal braces – reliable and effective
- Clear ceramic braces – more discreet than metal
- Lingual braces – fitted behind the teeth, virtually invisible
- Clear aligners (e.g. Invisalign®) – removable and nearly invisible trays
Your dentist will help you choose the best option based on your needs and lifestyle.
Treatment length varies depending on your case, but most adults wear braces or aligners for 12 to 24 months. Mild corrections may take less time, while more complex cases could take a little longer
You may notice slight changes to your speech for the first few days, especially with clear aligners or lingual braces, but most patients adapt quickly. Braces shouldn’t disrupt your daily routine significantly, and clear aligners can be removed for eating, brushing, and special occasions
You may feel some discomfort or pressure when your braces are first fitted or adjusted, or when switching to a new aligner. This is normal and usually settles within a few days. Over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods can help during this period.
Costs vary depending on the type of braces and complexity of your treatment. On average, private adult orthodontic treatment in the UK ranges from:
- £1,500-£3,000 for simple aligner cases
- £2,000-£5,000 for fixed braces or more complex treatments
Many clinics offer interest-free finance plans to help spread the cost.
Adult orthodontic treatment is generally not available on the NHS unless there’s a clear medical need. Most adults seeking braces for cosmetic or mild functional reasons will need to pursue private treatment.
You’ll typically see your dentist every 4 to 8 weeks for adjustments or progress checks. If you’re using aligners, you may be given several sets at once and check in less frequently depending on your plan.
Yes. Retainers are essential to maintain your new smile and prevent your teeth from shifting back. Your dentist will advise how long you’ll need to wear them, often nightly, and sometimes indefinitely.
Absolutely. Straightening your teeth can improve your confidence, oral health, bite function, and make cleaning your teeth easier, reducing your risk of gum disease and tooth decay in the long term.
